Qatar has been awarded the rights to host the World Men’s Handball Championship to be held in 2015. This is International Handball Federation’s (IHF) 24th such handball event. The other applicants for this championship that Qatar beat to win the hosting rights included Poland, Norway and France.
This announcement was made on 27th January 2011, Thursday, in Malmo, Sweden by the president of International Handball Federation. This decision is being seen throughout the world as a signal of the great progress that has been made in the sport of handball in Middle East.
Qatar Handball Association is expected to put their best foot forward to deliver a top-class best world championship. It is their chance to garner the support for the development and promotion of handball in the region. In fact, the efforts have already begin in this regard.
All matches of the 2015 World Men’s Handball Championship will be held in the city of Doha. Preparation is in full swing to construct state-of-the art venues for the championship. All athletes are expected to stay in a single best hotel in the city for the entire duration of the matches.
The entire handball community across the world is looking at Qatar in great anticipation. Qatar Handball Association promises this championship to be an amazing experience for all.
Qatar Handball Association came into being in the year 1968. Since then, it has strived hard to popularize the game of handball in the country. It set up several sports clubs and provided all material, trainers etc. to encourage youngsters to learn and play the sport. The QHA has to its credit the organization of several internal and external camps, training programs, courses and formation of national level teams. The Qatar handball team has won various accolades and honors so far, but is yet waiting to win it’s first World Championship. It is a great opportunity for them to prove their mettle to the world now.
